Like most of its destitute, immoral or troubled characters, Victorian detective drama Ripper Street has had a difficult history. Despite critical acclaim and a fiercely loyal following, the period piece was axed in 2013 by the BBC after two series because it struggled for audiences against ITV’s I’m A Celebrity… Get Me Out Of Here!.
