18 Heart-Stopping Places To See Before The End Of Time...(cont)

10. Plitvice Lakes, Croatia

Plitvice Lake National Park consists of a number of lakes, caves and waterfalls, all stunningly beautiful.  All of these wonderful places in the park were created through natural geological processes still going on even now.

There are about 20 lakes that were created by deposition of calcium carbonate which has been layering in the water thanks to the algae and bacteria in the water and creating unique and beautifully shaped caves of all sizes.

The carbonates from these lakes go back to the Jurassic and Cretaceous ages and people here are trying to preserve its natural look and characteristics, so they extended the original borders of the park using karstified limestone with dolomites from the Jurassic age.

The system of lakes is divided between the upper and lower lakes, where the upper ones are larger than the smaller – lower lakes, which are also shallower.

The forest in the Plitvice Lake National Park has wonderful stands of beech with dolomite and limestone, and lots of types of trees and other plants. When it comes to animals that live here, this is a home to the European brown bear, eagle owl, wolf and capercaille, along with 126 species of birds.

Plitvice has been a public property since 1949, and a World Heritage site since 1979.

11. Geirangerfjord, Norway

The Geirangerfjord is placed in the southwest of the Møre og Romsdal county in Norway. The village of Geiranger is very small, but amazingly beautiful and it is placed where the fjord ends and the river flows into it. It is one of the most popular tourist sites in Norway and for a good reason. It has been a UNESCO World Heritage Site since 2005, which only testifies to its worth and beauty.

The fjord is surrounded by mountains and steeps and the foaming waterfalls embellish this fjord and make the experience even more amazing.

The two most beautiful waterfalls are the Seven Sisters and the Suitor, and they face each other across the fjord. There is a story about these two waterfalls speaking about the love between them, and allegedly that is the reason why they are faced towards each other – because the Suitor is trying to win the Seven Sisters over.

If you decide to visit this amazing place, besides enjoying the beauty of the waterfalls, the fjord itself and the picturesque mountains, you can also take cruise trips, engage in some kayaking or go sightseeing from some of the world’s most famous viewpoints, including Ørnevegen (the Eagle Road), Dalsnibba and Flydalsjuvet. There are also mountain farms, and if you want to experience the farm life, feel free to visit some of the local farmers, they will be very welcoming.

12. Bagan, Myanmar

Bagan (formerly Pagan) is an ancient city located in the Mandalay region of Myanmar, and it has more than 2,000 pagodas and temples which have a 1,500-year-long history. This is one of the most fascinating places in the world and seeing it should definitely be on your list of things to do while you live on this earth.

This city was the capital of the Kingdom of Pagan which unified the regions that founded this city in the later centuries.

In the period when this kingdom was at its highest strength, more than 10,000 Buddhist temples and monuments were built, but ‘only’ around 2,200 still exist today.

It is difficult to say which ones are the most beautiful and amazing when all these monasteries, pagodas and temples are unique in their own way and have their own architectural styles and details.  Many of these temples still have the original paintings made between the 9th and the 13th century when the kingdom existed, but almost half of the paintings and other works of art were destroyed by time, or stolen.

This amazing place can be visited all year round and there are daily flights from Yangon, Chiang May and Seam Rap (Cambodia) by Air Bagan.

There are also many hotels that offer great service and comfort, so if you decide to stay a while, it’s definitely a possibility. And it is very probable that when you see this amazing ancient city you will be fascinated and want to stay as long as you can.

13. Navagio Bay, Greece

Navagio Bay, also known as “Smugglers Cove” and “Shipwreck Beach”, is located on an uninhabited part of the island of Zakynthos, which is one of the Greek Ionian Islands. It got its name back in 1983, when a ship smuggling cigarettes wrecked on this beach while being chased by the Greek Navy. The ship still stands as a monument and tourists often come to Navagio to see it.

However, this is not the only interesting thing you can see and experience in Navagio. It takes a couple hours to get to the bay from Zakynthos city by ship (there is no other way to go there), and on your trip you have the possibility of seeing dolphins swimming and playing in deep waters.

Once you get to Navagio, you won’t believe your eyes. What you have seen on pictures and postcards cannot be compared to this. The water is so stunningly blue and the sand is pure white mixed with tiny white stones.

The seawater in entire Greece is wonderfully transparent so you can see all the sea life, but here in Navagio it exceeds all expectations.

This beach has literally only just enough space to welcome passengers from one ship and no more. But it is amazing, and this is the beach most tourist agencies use when advertising summer vacations. You should go there at least once in your life.

14. Bora Bora, French Polynesia

Bora Bora is one of those places that could be easily called heaven on earth.

This island is also known as the “Romantic Island”, and it is located only a one-hour flight away from Tahiti. Bora Bora’s lagoon is nature’s work of art, and there is no chance you won’t fall in love with it when you see it. A picture is enough to get you dreaming about leaving all this behind and moving to the beautiful Bora Bora Island.
The beaches here are perfectly white and sandy and they go perfectly with the emerald waters and the multicolored fish swimming and making the view more amazing.

This island was originally called Pora Pora which means ‘first born’, because according to an ancient legend it rose from the water when the supreme god Taaroa fished it out, and it was the first island that rose.

Bora Bora is considered the most romantic place on earth, as it provides couples with privacy and amazingly romantic scenery, beautiful sunsets and resorts specially designed to match this paradise.

If you want more than just romance and nice views, there is always the possibility of canoeing, jet skiing, cruising and hiking through the island with some of the local guides. This is a whole package and surely among the top places every person wishes to visit.

15. Moraine Lake, Canada

In Banff National Park in Canada, there is the Moraine Lake only 14 kilometers away from the village of Lake Louise, Alberta. The lake itself is around half a square kilometer big and it is glacially-fed, reaching its crest no sooner than in the middle of June. It is surrounded by magnificent mountains with white tops which look as if they were iced or covered with snow.

If you’re not so much into swimming in the lake, you can choose to hike, as there are many walking and hiking trails. The Rockpile Trail is one of the best ones there, and one of the most crowded ones by tourists. It is around 300 meters long but it has lots of ups and downs so you will feel as if you have walked a lot more.

You can also rent a canoe and take it through the lake. And after a day of lake activities, you can settle in one of the lodges and spend a wonderful peaceful night with your family, enjoy the clean air and quiet sounds of nature.

This is definitely one of the most peaceful and beautiful places in Canada, and it can measure with the most beautiful places in the world, so it would be a shame not to see it.

16. Mount Roraima, Venezuela/Brazil/Guyana

Mount Roraima is the highest tepui plateau of all in the Pakaraima chain of plateaus in South America.

It comprises the area of 12 square miles (31 square kilometers) and it is surrounded by 1,300 feet (400 meter) high cliffs on all sides. Mount Roraima is located on the Guiana Shield inside the Canaima National Park and it contains some of the world’s oldest geological formations that originated two billion years ago in the Precambrian.

This is one of the most beautiful places on earth that will leave you out of breath and give you memories that will last a lifetime. The landscapes you can find here will give you the sense of being somewhere else and not on earth.

This mountain is home to all the fruits and vegetables and many different plants we have never even heard of. The land is so fertile that nothing dies here.

Now, this mountain that is anything but ordinary can be easily visited it, if you have the will to do it.

To get to Mount Roraima, you need to take a plane to Santa Elena de Uairén airport. This airport is in the same named town in Brazil, and from that point you can take a bus which will get you close to the bottom of the mountain. It takes a little effort, but it is completely worth it.

17. Batu Caves, Malaysia

Malaysia has its share of wonderful places, and one of them is Batu Caves. It is a limestone hill located just north of Kuala Lumpur, and it is made out of three main caves and several smaller ones, with temples and Hindu shrines.

The main attraction of Batu Caves is the large statue of the Hindu god Lord Murugan. The statue, which cost around 24 million rupees (which is around 370 thousand U.S. dollars), is made of 1,550 cubic meters of concrete, 250 tons of steel bars, and 300 liters of gold paint which was brought in from Thailand. It is 140 feet (42 meters) high.

To reach the caves, visitors have to climb a 272 steps long steep rise. It’s definitely not for the ones lacking physical strength.

The three main caves are Temple Cave, Art Gallery Cave and Museum Cave.

The first one is famous for its very high ceiling, and most of the Hindu shrines in the area are situated there. The other two are full of Hindu statues and paintings that you don’t want to miss.

This is one of the most popular Hindu shrines outside of India, and it is also the central point of a Hindu festival called Thaipusam.

Definitely worth working out for several months (so you can climb those steps) and paying a plane ticket!

18. McWay Falls, USA

McWay Falls are probably the most beautiful waterfalls on the California coastline, and among the most vivid in the U.S.

The tumbling waterfalls drop from around 80 feet to a beach placed in the McWay Cove and is opened to the Pacific Ocean.

The source of this waterfall is McWay Creek and it used to fall directly into the ocean. How amazing is that? Now, because of a landslide, it only falls into the ocean under high tide, but other than that the water is dropped onto the beach.

The beach can hardly be accessed by land, but you can easily approach it if you go there by boat.

If you are afraid of the cliffs and don’t want to go to the beach, you can also enjoy a hike which is one of the most popular activities in this area. There are also a lot of things to see here, from granitic rock islands and ocean coves, to the ancient growth redwood groves, amazingly diverse botany and fantastic historical structures and wonderful hardwood forests. There is also an underwater park above the McWay Falls.

This area is breathtaking during the entire day, but if you are looking for a calm and peaceful landscape experience treat yourself with sightseeing and exploring at sunset – everything looks more beautiful and your senses will be heightened, so you’ll probably enjoy this wonderfulness even more.
