A Win, Then a Hug: Serena Williams Beats Sister Venus at Wimbledon


Decades ago, when the Williams sisters were kids in California, taking tennis lessons from Dad on a municipal court and imagining playing at Grand Slam tournaments one day, it was Venus — older, taller, stronger — who usually beat Serena.

 Serena Williams stood three wins away from hoisting her fourth successive grand slam title by trumping elder sister Venus 6-4 6-3 to reach the quarter-finals of Wimbledon.

Serena Survives At Wimbledon, Will Meet Venus Next


Venus and Serena Williams walked onto their courts at precisely the same time on Friday, Serena to face British No. 1 Heather Watson; Venus to face Aleksandra Krunic. The sisters will walk out at the same time Monday again in the fourth round. This time, to face each other.
