Nigeria is to contribute 3,500 troops to the 10,000 multinational task force within the Lake Chad Basin that would be launched today in Cameroon.

The task force which was a joint initiative of the countries within the African sub- region will provide a military assault against the occupation of Boko Haram in the region.

Full Veil Banned in Key Niger Region Over Boko Haram Fears

Authorities in Niger’s Diffa area, on the border with Nigeria, have banned the full Islamic veil following suicide attacks in countries in the region by women wearing the religious garment, an official said Wednesday.

“Women in the region are forbidden from wearing the full veil until further notice, in order to prevent suicide attacks by Boko Haram,” Diffa mayor Hankouraou Biri-Kassoum told AFP.

Cameroon Deploys 2,000 Extra Troops to Fight Boko Haram


Cameroon will send about 2,000 military reinforcements to the north to fight Boko Haram, the Nigerian jihadist movement behind bloody cross-border raids and suicide bombings, state television said Tuesday.

“Almost 2,000 extra soldiers will be deployed in the Extreme North region,” on the border with northeastern Nigeria, according to the report on Cameroon Radio-Television, which gave no timetable for the operation.

About 625 killed as Boko Haram Gunmen Slit Some Residents’ Throats

Boko Haram gunmen killed dozens of people in four villages in Borno, slitting some residents’ throats and opening fire on others, one resident and the police said on Tuesday. The atrocities near Monguno in the northeastern state of Borno took the death toll since Muhammau Buhari became president in late May to more than 625, according to an AFP count.
