What a miracle! A teenage girl not only survived a horrific plane crash, but she managed to stay alive for two days in the Washington state wilderness!
Autumn Veatch, 16, was flying with her family from Montana to Washington on July 11 when their plane crashed in the woods. She was found by hikers on July 13, but sadly her step-grandparents, Leland Bowman, 62, and his wife, Sharon Bowman, 63, still remain missing.
After spending close to two days in the woods of Washington, Autumn was picked up by a motorist at a campsite on July 13. She was then driven to a store where an employee called 911 and gave her the phone to explain the situation. In a just released 911 call, Autumn is heard telling the operator that she was the only survivor of the plane crash.
During the phone call she made to 911, you can hear Autumn say, “I don’t know where we crashed and I was the only one that made it out.” She continues to tell the operator that she’s injured, “I have a lot of burns on my hands and I’m kind of covered in bruises and scratches and stuff.” So scary, that poor girl.
“It’s pretty miraculous that she was able to do as well as she did,” Rick Leduc the store owner told NBC. “It’s pretty rugged country where she came out at — probably some of the harshest country in the North Cascades.”
“It gets cold up there at night, pretty high elevations, so she survived not only the crash, then going through that,” Okanogan County Sheriff Frank Rogers told CNN. “I will just tell you this from all of us here — we are just impressed with her, she’s like a kind of superhero.”
Crews are still looking for the plane and the girl’s grandparents, according to the outlet.
