After a couple of Boca league wins without getting on the scoresheet, Carlos Tevez notched a first goal since returning home as the Primera leaders cruised past Banfield and into the last 16 of the Copa Argentina.
It took just five minutes for Boca to take the lead and Carlitos was heavily involved, as it was his shot that was parried by Enríque Bologna and tapped in by Pablo Pérez.
Banfield managed to stay in the game but on the brink of half-time they were undone by a Jonathan Calleri goal and it effectively ended the tie. Banfield never looked like turning the match around after the break and just twelve minutes after the restart Tevez put the result beyond doubt.
The 31-year-old returning hero struck a well placed free-kick into the space created by his own teammates and the ball nestled in the bottom corner after Bologna was left unsighted. Banfield had Nicolás Arce sent off shortly after and Boca were able to take their foot off the gas and coast to the full-time whistle. Arruabarrena’s side will now face Guaraní Antonio Franco in the last 16.
