Roger Federer Visits Malawi, Helps Open Early Education Facility

Tennis champ Roger Federer visited the African nation of Malawi on Sunday, offering his time to children on behalf of his charitable foundation.

"Excited to be visiting Malawi, the warm heart of Africa, for the first time," Federer tweeted on Sunday. The Roger Federer Foundation contributes to education programs in six African nations and his home country of Switzerland. In total, 215,000 children around the world benefit from programs funded at least in part by Federer's foundation.

A message posted to the foundation's website says that during the tennis star's trip to Malawi, the Lundu Model Community Based Childcare Center was launched. Federer also spent time interacting with the children and community members at two other centers.

"Early education is the foundation of all learning," Federer tweeted Sunday, alongside photographs of him speaking to and spending time with children benefiting from his foundation's efforts.
