The Jamaican rapper posted a link to an article about recent Illinois high school graduate Gavin Joseph who was beaten by a group of teenagers for spending most of his time alone.
'Tip of the day: If you start a fight, You better know how to fight or this will be happen! Pic#4 is insane! Ha!,' the rapper wrote above an image of Gavin with a badly bruised and swollen right eye.
The backlash was swift and severe as commentators took the Eenie Meenie singer to task for his insensitive comment.
One commentator wrote: '#readbeforeyoupost moron, no wonder your career is down the drain'.
'How About You Read The Story First SEAN KINGSTON, Before You Start To Make Stupid Comments!!!!,' read another comment.
A representative for the rapper, real name Kisean Anderson, said the Beautiful Girls singer did not read the story about Gavin, according to an article by TMZ.
The rep said that Sean has an outside vendor who runs his social media.
The vendor admitted to TMZ that they did not read the whole post about Gavin and believed they were 'sending a message that it wasn't cool to pick on autistic kids because they'll fight back.'
After being told that Gavin didn't fight back, the vendor replied, 'We messed up.'
The posting seemed out of character with other Facebook messages on Sean's page, including pearls of wisdom such as: 'To find yourself, think for yourself' and 'Things won't get better until you make them better.'
Sean has previously collaborated with Justin Bieber and has been working on his fourth studio album.
