The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) has advised President Muhammadu Buhari to distance himself from agents of propaganda and focus on delivering his promises and good governance to Nigerians.
This is contained in a statement signed by the party’s National Publicity Secretary, Chief Olisa Metuh, on Tuesday in Abuja.
It stated that as a responsible political party, it had promised not to distract the president from delivering good governance to the Nigerians.
It explained that the position had restrained it from commenting on a number of issues ‘’that ordinarily we would have made comments on’’.
It, however, said that because of the ‘’overzealousness’’ of some All Progressives Congress (APC) members ‘’in dramatising some imaginary achievements of your administration in one month, there is need to put the records straight.’’
According to it, while the PDP believes that one month is such a short time to assess any government, it has become necessary for the party and indeed, most Nigerians, to X-ray the achievements being claimed by APC.
The party urged the president to extricate himself from ‘’agents of propaganda who continue to believe that Nigerians would be swayed by cosmetic interventions instead of real business of government.’’
It noted that as the leader of the most populous black nation in the world, the president should not allow his administration to be pushed into the gimmicks of playing to the gallery.
It restated its commitment to constructive opposition, noting that whatever success achieved by the president was not for his individual benefit or that of the APC, “but for our collective and common good as a country’’.
