A group, Mubi Patriotic Front, has called on the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission, EFCC, to investigate the financial activities of Adamawa State University, ADSU, Mubi, from 2006 to date.
Spokesman of the group, Alhaji Yusuf Buba Maiwanki, who spoke to news men in Yola, said the probe became necessary to save the institution from a cabal milking it and bent on frustrating anyone from putting a stop to their nefarious activities.
It would be recalled that another group had earlier claimed to have petitioned Adamawa State governor and the EFCC through a write-up in one of the national dailies (not Vanguard) to investigate the activities of the university.
Maiwanki said the other group was disturbed by the recent emergence of Professor David Shall as the new Vice Chancellor of the university and was bent on frustrating him through frivolous petitions.
According to Maiwanki, such frivolous petitions against Prof Shall by the cabal, comprising some top officials of the university, included allegations that he was not qualified to hold the position and that he bought an official jeep for the chairman, governing board, of the university.
Maiwanki, who said Prof Shall emerged as Vice Chancellor based on merit after contesting with other candidates, said the purchase of official jeep for the chairman, governing board of the university was in order as previous board chairmen under past administration benefitted.
He said the need to probe the financial activities of the university from 2006 to date would enable EFCC know who the real criminals were between Prof Shall and the cabal trying to blackmail him.
He said the probe needed to look into years of alleged mismanagement of the university’s Internally Generated Revenue, taxes and pension deduction.
